Twenty Tools to Avoid the Title of “LOSER”!

Over the years, I have participated in many competitions, most of which were business-related or academic. I have never been a sports activity person, but I have many friends who are, so I try not to label someone if they may have lost a competition. I understand the psychological ramifications of winning and have some strong opinions on the subject. Unfortunately, I have seen too many people decimated because they did not win and fell into a loser mentality without even trying.

When I entered the management world, I developed an attitude that I would not focus on winning but rather on personal growth, the importance of the journey, and defining success on my terms. When I won, I gave credit where due, and that was usually the team. When I lost, I examined my values and mindset during and after the competition. I don’t need validation from external sources or via titles.

Anyone who uses the term “Second is the first loser” is, in my mind, a loser because they have put themselves on a pedestal that may or may not have been deserved. Even if they did win fairly, they are putting everyone else subservient to them, which is just plain wrong. Yes, they won at that particular time, place, and event, but there are always other events where the tables may be turned.
