When you want to plan to succeed, the most crucial step is to understand yourself truly. This self-awareness is the key to unlocking your potential. To achieve this, there are some vital questions that you should ask yourself. The answers to these questions will pave the way to your success and enlighten and empower you on your journey.

1. What am I passionate about?

If you’re unsure of your passions, it’s vital to pause and discover them. Working towards a goal that doesn’t ignite your passion can lead to a lack of motivation. Your passions are the fuel for your success. Is the passion real or someone else’s idea?

2. Where am I right now?

Being honest with yourself about your current situation is crucial. It’s not about self-criticism but understanding where and how far you are from your goal. Understanding and assessing your resources are the starting points for your successful journey. Include understanding your biases in this process because we all have them but too often ignore them or try to say they are subconscious. Get your head out of the sand.

3. Where do I begin?

It’s hard to get started without knowing where you will begin. To establish where you are starting, take the knowledge you’ve learned from asking yourself the first two questions and consider the most logical point to begin. Evaluate your goals and dissect them from the top to the bottom until you can answer this question.

4. What is my end game?

If you don’t know where you want to end up, you might never figure out where to start. Think carefully about where you want to end up and your end game. Use visualization techniques to help you pave the way to success.

5. What can’t I do by myself?

Every goal, no matter how big, can be achieved with the help of others. Whether it’s through offering resources or simply being there to provide moral support and accountability, there are ways others can help you. Recognizing this and considering how others can support you will make you feel connected and supported on your journey to success. Collaboration makes innovation much richer and more profitable when done correctly.

6. Why did I choose this goal?

Every goal is unique, especially regarding why the person setting the goal has chosen it. What are your personal motivations behind choosing this goal? What do you specifically hope to achieve by following this goal through its fruition? Do you want to make the world a better place? Improve the lives of the elderly or disabled? Pinpointing this will help you to shape your mission statement and stay motivated! Understanding your motivation is vital for success. Selfishness will be the downfall if it is the primary motivator.

7. What are my obstacles?

Knowing your obstacles before you even begin is a great way to face your fears and consider ways to overcome the challenges that might get in the way of your success. Addressing these early on ensures you have a plan to fall back on when the time comes, ensuring you can overcome them and succeed!

Planning is critical in life and on the job; however, make sure that you understand the concepts of adaptation, flexibility, and transparency because, without them, you may lock yourself into an obsession that is a false front and leads to disaster.
