10 Reasons Why Empathy Is Not a Flaw in Western Civilization
Elon Musk, a prominent figure in the tech and business world, told podcaster Joe Rogan, “the fundamental weakness of Western civilization is empathy, the empathy exploit … They’re exploiting a bug in Western civilization, which is the empathy response.” While controversial, this statement is often used to argue that empathy hinders progress and success.
I disagree with Mr. Musk and others who share his view for many reasons, most of which are supported by research. In their mind, anyone who is not driven by profit, greed, domination visions, or the destruction of perceived flaws in democracy is weak. Is there room for change in government? Absolutely, but torching everything and everyone is not a reasonable way to accomplish the changes.
